bio
Born April 13, 1993 in Lagos, Nigeria. Omolewa is a self-taught contemporary artist, working primarily with Acrylic.
She is influenced by the works of abstract expressionist, Elaine de Kooning and conceptual artist, Mark Bradford.
Omolewa works with a diverse array of materials in the process of applying her medium to the surface and can be classified as a gestural/action painter. She is inspired by the textures, colors and dynamics found in nature. This influence is evident in most of her recent works.
She was one of 25 artist selected to participate in the Rele Art Foundation bootcamp, an 11 day artist training program/residency.
ARTIST Statement
I believe the creation of art is a total committed to the process as dictated by the medium and surface. The artist is simply rewarded by the finished product. I use whatever tool I have: a hair brush, a piece of fabric, air, a paint brush, to move paint on a surface
I am inspired by the textures, colors and dynamics found in nature.
On days when I am not solely playing faithful steward to the medium, my paintings take the form of visual journal entries documenting the the process of gaining better understanding of the things that move me.
I am also intrigued by portraiture. I find it fascinating that a face can be expressed with as little or as much detail as you desire and still be identified as
a face. In other words a face is a face is a face.
